Comprehensive Modernization and Rehabilitation
The project “Comprehensive Modernization of the Družba Crude Oil Pipeline” and the related project “Rehabilitation of the Družba Crude Oil Pipeline” have approximated the technical condition of the Družba crude oil pipeline to the IKL crude oil pipeline level as much as possible. Safety and management efficiency of this pipeline system operated for more than 35 years have increased.
Works started in 1999 and were completed in 2003. The main objectives of the above projects were to increase the technical level of the existing equipment and to install a modern control and communication system.
From the beginning of the Comprehensive Modernization Project, closing valves were constructed each year within separate phases from the Morava River to the terminals in Litvínov and Pardubice. Each of the new closing valves contains a valve chamber, machinery and technological equipment, cabin with electrical equipment and control and communication system. Global tests within each phase were carried out during full pipeline operation and at different pumping modes. The control system operates 65 ball valves in total.
